HISTORY
“We were four friends at the bar who wanted to change the world…”.
It’s not just the beginning of a famous song, but the beginning of our story. That’s how ReBLINDS was born: with four friends, sitting over a beer, joking and talking about a documentary one of them had seen the week before on the Pacific Trash Vortex, the island of plastic in the Pacific Ocean that has now grown into a continent. Another replied that you only have to look at the Mediterranean, one of the most polluted seas in the world, with around 650 tonnes of plastic poured into its waters every day.
It could have been one of those classic conversations among friends that end there. But instead…
We all come from backgrounds of education and personal growth where we learned that in life you only have one chance: to do your part. You may not be able to solve a huge problem, you may not be able to force others to do what is right, but you can certainly do your part.
We had already had experience in the world of recycled plastic in the past. So we decided to combine our skills, our enthusiasm, our know-how, our dreams, and bring this startup to life. We had the strength, the courage, the passion to involve suppliers, companies, installers, and partners to create a project. Because dreaming is wonderful, but making dreams come true requires concreteness. It was therefore necessary to structure a business capable of supporting these dreams.
The most beautiful thing about dreams and emotions is that they are contagious. And we thought we wouldn’t be the only ones doing our part. Because every time someone decides to install a ReBlinds product in their home or office, they will be doing their part to help eliminate plastic from the planet. Every time an architect, interior designer, or planner decides to include a ReBlinds product in their work, they will be doing their part to help nature. Every time a construction company, a shipyard, a showroom, or a retailer decides to invest in ReBlinds products, they will be doing their part to leave behind a better world.
Every day, we dream, we get excited, and we work to make this happen.
We have done and will continue to do our part.
Now it’s your turn!
PROBLEM
Looking at his phone, the third friend checks and finds that more than 450 million tonnes of plastic are produced every year, and that 8 million tonnes of plastic waste end up in the oceans annually. It’s clear to everyone that marine plastic pollution is one of the most urgent environmental issues to address. Especially because plastic breaks down into increasingly smaller particles that enter the food chain of fish and—believe it or not—also that of humans.
WHAT REBLINDS DOES
Here’s the idea: to create ReBlinds with the aim of establishing a circular economy for plastic, based on the marketing of blinds, coverings, and blackout systems for illuminated and glass surfaces—both interior and exterior—featuring cutting-edge design, custom-made, but above all with fabrics made from up to 100% recycled plastic, also collected from the seas.
How can you help us in this project? By purchasing products from our ReBlinds Collections.
Thank you for the contribution you wish to make to our Mission.
F.A.Q.
Because the problem has now reached dimensions that can no longer be ignored: 1 million plastic bottles are released into the environment every day; around 25 million tonnes of general waste every month; and over 5 billion plastic bags every year. This happens at every latitude, meaning that plastic has now reached every corner of the planet.
Every year, millions of animals are killed by plastic—whether because they become trapped, suffer damage to their bodies, or die of starvation. Hundreds of species, including those at risk of extinction, are affected by this problem daily. We are talking about birds, fish, crustaceans, and also land animals that drink from polluted water sources. It is an entire ecosystem in danger. And if we are truly so blind as not to see the threat… let’s talk about the fish, shellfish, and crustaceans that end up on our tables.
Unlike many ideologists and demagogues, we are aware that plastic is now an integral part of our entire society: there is no home, office, or production process in which plastic has not taken on a primary role. Just look, for example, at how much plastic there is in your car. Therefore, we know that for both practical and economic reasons, plastic is currently irreplaceable. Of course, the entire disposal cycle needs to be improved, and waste can certainly be avoided.
But there is another truth: if it is true that almost everything is now made of plastic, it is equally true that almost everything can now be made from recycled plastic. It therefore becomes a matter of choice and environmental education—of what kind of world we want to leave to our children.
As mentioned in the previous FAQ, plastic cannot be eliminated from our lives. And I add: the problem has now reached such proportions that it can only be solved with everyone’s cooperation. This is the excuse most people use; it’s the shield behind which all those who don’t do their part hide, claiming it wouldn’t make any difference.
We have decided to act differently: we have chosen to do our part and to educate as many people as possible to follow the path of personal commitment. Because we are convinced that only the personal commitment of many, only the awakening of a large number of consciences, can trigger a process that will reverse the fate of our planet. That’s why we hope to convince more and more manufacturers to invest in producing our recycled plastic products; more and more professionals to use our items in their projects; and more and more clients to enhance their spaces with ReBlinds, while at the same time doing their part to protect our wonderful Earth.
